About Denby
In 1806, local entrepreneur William Bourne, discovered a seam of high quality clay. By 1809, Bourne had tasked his son, Joseph, with the running of what would become known as Denby Pottery. Joseph had inherited his father’s entrepreneurial skills and he patented the company’s unique salt glazing technique. This technique helped give Denby pieces their unique finish, and their brown glazed bottles and jars became popular and extremely profitable.
Over time, Denby has extended to produce and create a whole range of dinnerware and kitchenware items. They have become well known for manufacturing quality porcelain and china.
