200 Years of Fine China
A seam of fine clay was discovered near Denby in Derbyshire in 1806 and local businessman William Bourne started producing ceramic and pottery from the location in 1809. His son Joseph Bourne was quick to realise the benefits of patenting, first protecting the unique salt glaze that they used at the time. This salt glaze is what gives Denby its unique finish, and it also helps to ensure the quality and strength of the pottery that comes out of their factory.
Although the company was first known for its production of bottles and jars, which were used to hold items like tablets and even pickles and jam, they have extended their line to incorporate many other items for use in the home.

James Martin
The Denby James Martin Everyday collection is a collaboration between Denby Pottery and TV chef James Martin. Born in 1972, the celebrated chef presented BBC's Saturday Kitchen from 2006 to 2016. He is also known for TV shows like Saturday Morning With James Martin and many others. Professionally, Martin trained at Scarborough Training College and Hostellerie De Plaisance in France. He worked at the 3 Michelin star restaurant Maison Troisgros in Roanne, France. He now has two restaurants; one at the Talbot Hotel in Malton, North Yorkshire, and James Martin Manchester in Manchester. He was awarded the Honorary Professor role by the University of West London and the Craft Guild of Chefs Special Award in 2013.

The Everyday dinner plate is a 28cm dinner plate. It is a natural blue-grey white and these porcelain plates are tough and durable and with a slightly translucent body.
