About Sophie Conran
Sophie Conran is the daughter of restaurateur Sir Terence Conran and food writer Caroline Conran. She has worked as a buyer for The Conran Shop and the Design Museum. Having lived in Australia, the aspiring designer moved to Asia where she worked for her designer brother Jasper Conran. On her eventual return to the UK, Sophie launched a range of gourmet pies, winning multiple Great Taste Awards. In 2006, she launched the cookbook "Pies".
In March 2006, Sophie Conran teamed up with British manufacturing group, Portmeirion. The partnership has led to multiple awards which, in turn, has seen the collection expand over recent years. Conran also works with Burgon & Ball, designing gardening tools, and with cutlery manufacturer, Arthur Price.
About Portmeirion Group
Portmeirion Group was first established in 1960 as Portmeirion Pottery. Susan Williams-Ellis and her husband, Euan Cooper-Willis took over the running of a small pottery design company in Stoke on Trent. A year later, the couple bought an additional business that offered them the capability to manufacture the pottery and not just decorate it.
Early designs included the popular Totem design but it was in 1972 when they first launched Botanic Garden range, which would become their signature collection and would put their names firmly in the minds of pottery and homeware buyers.
In 2009, the company bought Royal Worcester and Spode, which had been put into administration. Not only did this mean that the iconic British brands continued to operate, but it saw the manufacture of Spode, which had previously been taken to the Far East as a means of cost saving, returned to the UK. Following the acquisition, Portmeirion Pottery changed its name to Portmeirion Group to represent the variety of brands they were now charged with.
The Colour Pop range is a selection of breakfast pottery, including bowls as well as teacups and saucers. They have a white ripple effect on the exterior of the porcelain body, combined with a pop of colour on the inside of the pottery items. Buy a variety of colours to create a rich and stunning breakfast set that will look fantastic adorning any breakfast table.
The grey collection ahs a similar ripple effect, and uses the same high quality porcelain that Portmeirion is known for. There are many items to choose from, including plates and bowls. The Sophie Conran grey 12 piece set is a boxed collection that includes 4 small plates, 4 dinner plates, and 4 bowls; an ideal way to start your tableware collection. Individually, you can also buy extra items like sugar bowls and milk jugs, storage jars, and beautiful espresso cups and saucers.
The white collection offers a crisp design that works for any mealtime at any venue or in any room. Buy the tea party teapot, and combine this with white cups and saucers, or consider combining the brilliant white teapot with colour pop cups to give an extra edge to the design of your tea set and tableware collection. The white espresso cup and saucer sets are an ideal anniversary gift for the couple that loves great tasting coffee and appreciates beautiful porcelain products. Alternatively, you can buy tall mugs and, as well as the standalone teapot, there is also a 3 piece tea set that includes sugar bowl and milk jug to accompany the tea pot.
While Portmeirion Group is best known for its pottery, they also make great looking and high quality glassware. The Sophie Conran tableware collection includes wine glass sets. These sets of 2 wine glasses include standard glasses as well as large glasses, with the latter being better suited to holding red wine. These affordable sets of two glasses offer a great way to complement your table setting design.
Tableware is an essential kitchen and dining room component. We literally eat off them, and as well as ensuring that you get good quality items, you should also consider how they will look when they are being used to serve food to guests at the dining table. Porcelain dining sets are a great option because porcelain is durable and hardwearing, and its glaze means that it is attractive too.
By incorporating Sophie Conran's designs, Portmeirion Group's dining box set is the ideal addition to your dining table. You receive 4 each of small plates, dinner plates, and bowls, providing everything you need for a family meal. You can buy additional place settings, if needed, or simply buy two box sets for the large family or if your entertain regularly.
Sophie Conran is well known for her award winning range of pies and other pastries. The baking set is a white set of porcelain baking accessories. It includes a medium mixing bowl, measuring cups, measuring spoons, and a measuring jug; everything you need in order to be able to create a kitchen masterpiece.
Like all of the Sophie Conran tableware collection, the baking set would make an ideal gift. Buy the set for somebody you know that loves to get their hands covered in flour. There's a very good chance that the recipient will love the gift so much, that you can expect to start receiving cakes and baked goodies for years to come.
