The famous Blue Story theme was developed by English ceramic artists in the late 18th century. Its inspiration was drawn from the delicate hand-painted blue and white wares imported into Europe from China. This happened at a time when mass production techniques were being introduced in Stoke on Trent, the flourishing centre of the UK pottery industry, with the result that the "look" was popularised in all corners of the globe.
