About Le Creuset
Le Creuset is a French manufacturer of cast iron and stoneware cookware. They were formed in 1925 by two Belgian engineers who had met at the Brussels Fair. They quickly formed a bond and established a foundry in Fresnoy-Le-Grande; a location that was central to trade routes and offering convenient and easy access for raw materials like coal and iron. Although the company's first product was the cast iron Crocotte, or casserole dish, they also became well known for their stoneware kitchen items and cookware products.
The Benefits Of Stoneware Cookware
Le Creuset manufactures both cast iron and stoneware cookware. They have a wide range of baking dishes, pie dishes, and other bakeware made from enamelled stoneware. The cast iron products are very high quality, and preferred for cooking certain dishes, but stoneware has certain advantages over cast iron that make it the preferred choice for many chefs and home cooks.
Aluminium and copper release tiny amounts of metal into the food as you cook. While these levels may be harmless, they can taint the taste of your food. This is especially a problem with acidic food. Stoneware from Le Creuset does not leach its contents into the food that you prepare, which means that you aren't consuming unwanted metals and you aren't unknowingly altering the flavour of your food.
Stoneware holds heat really well. This means that heat is distributed across the stoneware evenly, while cooking. This makes it very useful for baking, because it helps provide a browned, crisp exterior, which is usually desirable when creating baked goods.
Stoneware is very durable. In fact, Le Creuset stoneware can and has been passed on from one generation to the next, more of a family heirloom than a simple piece of bakeware. It is chip resistant and crack resistant. It is heated to incredibly high temperatures during the manufacturing process, which means that it will be able to resist any temperature that your home cooker can throw at it.
Cast iron has a beauty of its own, but stoneware is arguably more attractive. It is made to go straight from the oven to the table, as a serving dish, and the wide range of attractive colours means that it is attractive enough to be considered a beautiful centre piece for any occasion. If you do use stoneware as a serving dish, allow it to cool a little before placing it on the table, and let your guests know that it could be very hot.
From Cooker To Freezer
Le Creuset stoneware shouldn't be used on the hob top, as it is bakeware and the stone is not designed to come into such close contact with the heat source. It can, however, be used in the oven or grill, the microwave, the dishwasher, and even in the freezer.
In fact, Le Creuset stoneware can be taken straight from the freezer and placed in the oven. Once the food is cooked, the pot can go straight from the oven back into the freezer once again. This means that your new baking dish can be used to cook food, and you can put the leftovers straight into the freezer.
When you want to reheat what's left, simply take it out of the freezer and put it in the oven or even the microwave. Of course, the great looks of the stoneware mean that you can also use the dish to serve it once the food is prepared.
The Le Creuset Stoneware Casserole Dish
The casserole dish is one of the French manufacturer's most popular lines, and as well as full size dishes, you can also buy individually sized, mini casserole dishes. This 10cm diameter casserole dish has a 0.25L capacity and is ideal for making individual dishes for any guest, or for yourself. Available in a large selection of colours, the Petite Casserole Dish can also be used as a serving dish or a container for dips and other condiments and accessories.
Cookware
Stoneware is ideal as cookware, because of its thermal properties and because it can easily withstand the high temperatures of the home oven. Le Creuset stoneware is especially suitable because it can be moved from freezer to oven, and back again, while the wide variety of cookware products means that you can find exactly the items you want for your kitchen.
Heritage oval dishes have a classic look, and measure 20cm which means that they are ideal for preparing almost any dish. Ramekins are ideal for preparing individual desserts, or even as individual serving dishes for any number of guests. Rectangular baking dishes are not only great quality but they are versatile and flexible, and can be used to prepare almost any type of food, whether it is a main course or dessert.
Not only does Le Creuset cookware perform well, but it looks good enough to be used for serving food, and don't forget that evert one of these products can be quickly and easily cleaned in the dishwasher.
Breakfast Collection
The breakfast collection is an attractive, bright, and colourful collection of teapots, mugs, jugs, and bowls, that can adorn any table top in any property. They are extremely durable, chip and damage resistant, and their classically attractive looks means that these products are even suitable for use in cafes and restaurants. Their strength and durability is what makes them ideal for use in hotels and guest houses, bed and breakfasts, and in commercial premises.
Giftware
Le Creuset stoneware really is attractive, as well as being functional. This combination means that many of the items that they produce are ideal as gifts. If you know somebody that loves spending time in the kitchen, or enjoys showing off the food that they prepare, then Le Creuset giftware is ideal.
Espresso mug sets and star shaped ramekin sets come with two high quality products for the consumer. Larger sets, including large sets of six stoneware mugs, or even six egg cups, also make heartfelt gift ideas. These sets include a gamut of colours, and are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the products that you can purchase.
Alternatively, you can buy an item like the casserole dish, and give this as a gift to a family member or loved one. They will last for years to come, most Le Creuset stoneware comes with a 5 year guarantee, and the combination of durability and great looks makes these perfect gifts for any occasion.
