About KitchenAid
The KitchenAid brand started with the KitchenAid stand mixer that most of us associate with the company today. Engineer Herbert Johnston had watched bakers mixing and preparing dough to make bread, and decided that it could be done automatically, saving bakers time but also offer home cooks the opportunity to create the same high quality food in their own home.
He came up with a prototype, which was first manufactured in 1914. On completion, prototypes were sent out to the wives of directors, and one wife described the mixer as being the best kitchen aid she had ever used, and so the name KitchenAid was born and continues to be used today. The appliances were initially sold door to door, by a sales force that was predominantly made up of housewives and women. The company believed that women would be more inclined to listen to the advice of women, and their theory worked out well.
Over time, the KitchenAid mixer proved so popular that the brand expanded to include additional items for use in the kitchen, as well as a range of different sizes and styles of mixer. Today, you can buy stand mixers, hand mixers, and mini mixers, as well as items like coffee machines, kettles, toasters and, of course, food processors.
Versatile Food Preparation
The power behind the food processor literally comes from the power it has to offer. The powerful motor powers metal blades that can be used to cut through fruit and vegetables, and will even dice and process nuts. It will also make easy work of herbs, which might be delicate but can actually prove more difficult to accurately and finely chop than a lot of larger objects and ingredients. It is this versatility that makes the food processor one of the most beneficial items in the kitchen. Rather than individually chopping and dicing ingredients, you can pop them in the processor, press the button and let your new kitchen appliance create perfectly blended mix from your natural ingredients.
While the mix is cutting, you can add additional ingredients, including wet ingredients, and you can change the blade so that you can prepare additional and different ingredients for the same meal too. The removable blades are not only convenient for their operational use, but they are easy to clean once removed, so that you won't avoid using the food processor for fear of the almighty cleanup operation.
Precise Controls
Some basic food processors offer only very basic controls. If you're lucky you might get two or three variable speed controls, and while these might suffice for some ingredients and some mixtures, you need more if you want to be able to create a culinary masterpiece. The KitchenAid food processor has graded controls that can be accurately controlled. You can employ a slow processing motion or a fast chopping action, and you can use these controls to help achieve the kind of results that you would normally see in a commercial or professional kitchen.
Additional Blades
The KitchenAid food processor really can be used to prepare almost any dish. It will easily slice and dice fruit and vegetable, and it can even be used to prepare batters and mixes for other dishes. By swapping out the standard blade for one of the additional blades that are also available, you can further expand its functionality.
For example, the citrus juicer makes quick work of lemons and limes, to give you fresh juice without the pips and pith that is generally considered undesirable. The French fry disc will cut potatoes into the perfect skinny fry shape that we all know and love, while the shredding disc can be used equally as effectively to grate parmesan or even ice. Alternatively, you can buy a replacement or additional reversible shredding disc that will work as the primary cutting disc in your food processor.
The 3.1L model comes with egg whip, spatula and accessory storage case, as well as 2 bowls - a 3.1L bowl and a smaller 950ml bowl for making smaller dishes or smaller batches of the same dish. You get a mini blade, multi-purpose blade, and dough blade, and you can use these blades to achieve ultra precise cuts ranging from 1mm to 6mm in thickness. The processor can be used to mix virtually any ingredients, and once you have enjoyed the precise control that the KitchenAid Food Processor has to offer, you will wonder how you ever survived without it.
Other KitchenAid Products
Over the years, KitchenAid has expanded its offering. As well as the stand mixer, you can also buy a more compact and portable mini mixer, while the hand mixer is ideal for quickly blitzing soups and other dishes. Coffee makers, kettles, and toasters are among some of the most popular and most commonly used of all the kitchen appliances, and whatever appliance you buy, you can be sure that it will be high quality, durable, long lasting, and versatile.
