About Denby
Denby is a well known British brand that has been producing its stoneware clay dinnerware items in Derbyshire for just over 200 years. On the discovery of a seam of Derbyshire clay in Denby, local businessman William Bourne extracted the clay and used it to start producing high quality kitchenware. Under the guidance of his son, Joseph Bourne, Denby Pottery started producing bottles and jars before progressing to create dinnerware sets. Today, their lines also include accessories like coasters and many other items.
Stoneware Clay
The stoneware clay used to produce Denby Pottery items is still sourced from Derbyshire, and the company retains its pottery n Denby. It uses traditional glazing techniques, but has continues to improve upon their products and introduce new colours and designs.
The stoneware clay is strong and hardwearing. It can be knocked and bumped without suffering damage, and the vitrified glaze affords the clay even greater protection.
Vitrification
The vitrified glaze of the stoneware clay makes it chip and scratch resistant. It also gives the clay a unique, glossy finish, and it can be moved quickly from freezer to oven and back again. Stoneware clay don't discolour from the food, and vitrification serves to improve this protection, too.
Care And Maintenance
Stoneware is not only strong and hardwearing, it is also easy to maintain. Denby stoneware can put in the dishwasher, which means that it is easy to use on a daily basis and can be cleaned quickly. The dinnerware items can also be used in the microwave, to heat food, and they can be used in the fridge and the freezer too. Items like the plate and saucer that are part of the Denby Fire and Denby Fire Chilli ranges are easy to maintain, and they will last a lifetime with just a little maintenance.
Other Denby Items
The Denby Fire range will be discontinued from 2018, but we do still have some stock available at low prices and as part of our free delivery offer, if you spend more than £50.
